More than three decades later, in 2019, Jonelle's body was found by a crew digging a pipeline. Despite 9:30 p.m. being the time Jonelles father arrived home to discover his daughter missing, Viorst indicated Drake could have left earlier than his mother reported. Pankey said he left Greeley in 1987 and hasnt been back to Colorado since. Once her remains were identified, the police department issued a news release saying that the case was now a homicide investigation. Her comments brought up Pankeys connections to family friends of the Matthews family, according to Hicks.
